Research reading and writing groups
The PfA SIG is happy to announce that our monthly Reading and Writing Groups are back this year! The purpose of these groups is to spur scholarly dialogue in our SIG and to support each other in our writing, especially for those are at an early stage of their career.
This year, members will have the option to sign up for either or both of the Reading and Writing Groups.
If you wish to participate in the Reading Group and/or Writing Group, please sign up on this Google form by
Friday, October 6th. Please also feel free to write on the form your expectations and preferences for the Reading Group and/or Writing Group. We look forward to beginning our scholarly engagement in October. If you have any questions or suggestions, please direct them to Hang M. Le ([email protected]).

Reading Group
The theme of the Reading Group this year will match the CIES 2020 conference theme 'Education Beyond the Human.' Each month, members will discuss a selected text (no more than 30 pages) to collectively explore different aspects of the theme 'Education Beyond the Human.' We imagine potential topics to include alternative ontoepistemologies, posthumanism, multi-species relations, artificial intelligence, etc., but members are also invited to take over proposing topics, readings, and leading discussions in future months. Our dialogue will mostly take place through blog posts and comments on our new PfA blog platform, with the option to organize virtual meetings if members are interested.
Writing Group
Writing Group members will circulate their writing at various stages of development to a small group of 'critical friends' to receive feedback. The pieces that we circulate can be related to dissertations, conference submissions, and article/book publications, such as:
* selecting a research topic * finding collaborators for research and publication * designing a sound research question and developing your methodology * making connections between existing theory and research, identifying gaps in the research, and writing the literature review + any other writing you would like some feedback on Once you have indicated interest on this Google form, we can organize bi-monthly or monthly online chats (or when possible, in-person discussions) that could last about an hour. We are mindful that many members are working in multiple time zones so written feedback would also be central to this process. |
